About Hard Hat Yarns
In Australia, a "yarn" is a good story, the kind told on a break or at the end of a long shift. Hard Hat Yarns is exactly that: short, light-hearted stories from the worksite, each with a safety lesson tucked inside.
Meet the Crew
The crew is a family affair: each character is inspired by me and my siblings, shared with their blessing.
- Gelo ("Gel") is me, the safety lead who's always asking "what could go wrong?" Watch ▸
- Manny is my younger brother Romano, the shortcut specialist who keeps the rest of us on our toes. Watch ▸
- Ally is my sister Alysen, the hazard spotter who doesn't miss a thing. Watch ▸
- Rocco ("Rocky") is my late elder brother Loranzo, the one who'd "been there, seen it". Having him on the crew keeps him part of every story. Watch ▸
How It Started
After years in workplace safety, I wanted a way to share the lessons that stick, without another slide deck or toolbox talk handout. The characters and voices are created with AI tools, and every safety message is checked against current WA WHS laws and official guidance before it's published. The videos are general information only, so always follow your own workplace's procedures.
Who's Behind It
I'm Angelo Laurence, a WHS/EHS consultant in Western Australia with more than 20 years of experience, including work in Asia. Hard Hat Yarns is my side project, and my professional work is at www.angelolaurence.au.
